Shaun had an overnight business trip yesterday so the girls and I spent the night with my parents last night. After a very long restless night my mom woke me and told me that my sister’s dog of almost 15 years ran off and could not be found. I bought my sister Shadow when he was 6 weeks old. I found him at the animal shelter and couldn’t stand the thought of leaving him and she was the only person I knew that would take him so he was a very early Christmas present. She has loved him like her child for so many years. He is part of her family
About 6 months ago the vet told her that he had cancer and that he wouldn’t make it much longer. Dia and Jason recently moved out of town to a farm house. The area is all new to Shadow and he doesn’t get around good AT ALL. Well they let him out last night and he wondered away and didn’t come home. Keep in mind that this farm house is out in the middle of nowhere. They searched for Shadow way into the night and started again around 5:30 this morning. Lena had two doctor appointments today so I could not go help until this afternoon.
We all thought the worse of course. We all thought that maybe he went away to die. Dia was a mess all day and I couldn’t stand the thought of not getting up there to help find Shadow. Dead or Alive I wanted to help my sister. She told me over and over not to come but like always I didn’t listen. Ha!
My mom took Lena with her to run errands and Sarah Grace, Natalie, and I got ready to go search. We all prayed on our way that God would lead us in the right direction to find him. We got to the dirt road that they live on and I turned into the first house on the road with high hopes that maybe he wondered that far from home and couldn’t find his way back.
I slowly got out of the car and a sweet little lady came out to meet us. I told her what I was looking for and she said “I haven’t seen a dog but the neighbor kids found one last night” and sure enough here came Shadow limping towards us. I can’t tell you the emotions that we had. It was like we were in a very old black and white movie. He was whimpering as he walked to us. He was so happy to get in my car to go see his momma. I immediately called Dia crying to tell her the news. Natalie and I were both crying so hard. There are no words for that moment. He was so happy to be home and he was falling asleep standing up. I am so glad that it all worked out like it did. I was so heartbroken for my sister and the boys today. God was with us today!
